My Favorite Things | Fredericksburg Wedding Photographer

Spring is coming! I love Spring…I love Easter…I love birds chirping and the smell of fresh cut grass! Can you tell I’m a little excited? I grew up in Maine, so our Spring is basically the thaw after a brutal winter so everything is muddy and wet. It doesn’t start to dry out until June/July so we always joke that Maine doesn’t really have 4 seasons, we just have snow, mud and mosquitoes. I love living in Virginia, where the Spring is beautiful, the winters are pretty mild and the summer and fall are true to their seasons.

In celebration of Spring, I wanted to post a few of my favorite things and a little incentive for you to tell me what your favorite things are. Lets see how many people read my blog…A commenter will be chosen at random to receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card [Family excluded]. Winner will be chosen when I return from vacation and announced on April 10.

1. Sanuk Sandals – these are amazing sandals. I wore mine with everything last summer until Samson; our mischievous puggle decided that he wanted to eat mine – so I will be purchasing a new pair shortly – I’m just waiting for the temperature to get out of the 40′s.

2. Nivea Lip Butter – Hands down, best lip moisturizer out there

3. Topsy Turvy Strawberry Planter – I have been dying to try and grow my own fruits, vegetables & herbs. I have been eyeing this strawberry planter for a few years and I am going to give it a try. I found a tomato and herb planter also I think I will have Chris pick up. Now, if I can keep the bunnies from eating all of my beautiful plants then I will have succeeded.

4. The Voice – Need I say more??? I think this show is just ingenious and I love how the judges choose the finalists based on just their voice and not their looks or their whole package…and who doesn’t love Blake, Adam, Usher and Shakira – EEEEK

5. DWTS – OMG – March brings such an amazing line up of new shows and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my all time favorite show ever!!! The mere fact that Kellie Pickler is one this season just adds to my excitement! [insert jazz hands] I am praying that she wins! GO KELLIE!

So that wraps up a few of my favorite things this month – leave a comment on your favorite thing and you could walk away with that sweet little gift card just in time for Spring.:)

Cheers!

Goodbye Google Reader | Fredericksburg Wedding Photographer

I am making a public announcement right now Folks! Here it is – I confess!!!! I am a Blog stalker! I love reading other blogs, I am addicted! Maybe they have a Blogaholic Anonymous class I can take – If you know any, please send them my way. I find joy and inspiration in following other photographers and ooohhhhing and ahhhhhing over their latest creative styled shoot or destination wedding. So….you can imagine my surprise when this happened – It was announced not to long ago, that as of July 1, 2013 – Google Reader would no longer be available.

Hold the phone….WHAT????? All of a sudden, I felt my chest tighten, I had palpitations and I started sweating. I had spent so much time adding my favorite wedding photographers, portrait photographers and RSS feeds to my Google Reader, what was I going to do? I had everything in one neat and tidy space where I could log in every morning to see what my favorite bloggers were up to. How in the world was I going to remember all of those Blog feeds.

Well, have no fear – Google is not the only RSS feed on the block folks! If you use Google Reader, DO NOT PANIC…here are a few viable options for you and they seem pretty easy to navigate and export. I chose Feedly, which is a little different than Google Reader as far as looks and platform, but I like it’s sleeker design and so far it has been wonderful.

Here are a few other options for you, incase you find that Feedly isn’t for you.

Trash the Dress – Jennifer + Ravic

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with your dress? Well, you can put it back in its plastic bag and save it…maybe your own daughter will wear it one day; or…you can put it back on and call ME! Both Trash the Dress sessions I have done were for Brides that wanted to donate their dresses to amazing causes, but wanted that one last time to put their dress on and get some photos they wouldn’t have gotten on their wedding day. Trashing the dress doesn’t mean you have to literally trash it – I promise we won’t ruin it, or set it on fire, but I may have you laying in dirty alleys, or traipsing through the water.:)

These sessions are so much fun and its just a time for you to let go of the nervousness you may have felt on your wedding day. There are no expectations or pressures – just have fun and capture your inner FAB.

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Jennifer + Ravic for their Trash the Dress session. Jennifer had a very specific place in mind for their pictures and when she sent me a picture of the area, I might have squealed a little; okay, I squealed a lot!:)Graffiti Alley is hands down the coolest place I have ever shot. It was edgy, fun, grungy and perfect for a Trash the Dress session. When I got there, I just stood and stared because the pictures didn’t do it justice. I hope to have a lot more Trash the Dress sessions in the future, please to be quite honest…THEY ROCK!

Contact Melissa Waller Photography at 703-598-2497 for your Trash the Dress Session!

Please enjoy a few of my favorites from Jennifer + Ravic’s Trash the Dress session – Baltimore style!
